Summary/Abstract: This study presents initiatives aimed at promoting education among Roma youth. Today, special attention is given to post-secondary education. In this regard, I reviewed the object of the people’s colleges (“népi kollégium”) movement. In the 1930s and 1940s, a powerful movement successfully promoted education among the poor peasants, the marginalised social class in Hungary at that time. The history of similar efforts among the Roma population evokes this success.
