Summary/Abstract: Political realism has attached a large sphere of reference to the interventionist doctrine, which can be legitimized through both economic and political reasons. In time, the interventionist doctrine has undergone significant transformations, in accordance with the reconfiguration of the international security environment. This paper analyzes the theoretical and legal aspects connected to this doctrine, in the attempt to understand its evolution in time, as well as its perspectives for the future. Furthermore, the study addresses the evolution of American foreign policy in the Middle East, which we consider being a relevant proof for the manner in which interventionism has changed in the last decades.
