Summary/Abstract: The topic of women’s emancipation process in Romania has been up for debate since the fall of communism. It has been proven that, since it was a top down process, part of the political program imposed by the Worker’s Party in Romania, not correlated with actual needs, the emancipation lacked its social dimension, depriving women of liberties. However, this does not cancel the fact that political rights were given to women, thus reinforcing the conception that the emancipation process has been a reality. Analyzing the emancipation process in correspondence with various aspects of feminist theories has the purpose of highlighting the specificities of both concepts. In theory, the starting point and the political outcome of the two movements should have overlapped, but the social consequences ended up visibly contrasting
