The influences of crusades over heraldic system

Summary/Abstract: How crusades did influenced heraldry? Even if they did not induced the emergence of heraldry, the religious wars succeeded to put together, to develop and settle a very well organized system of crusaders insignias. The cross, the shell, the bessants, and most of heraldic colours became important objects in the escutcheon of the participants at the crusades. In the course of time coats of arms come to represents the proof of an old and honourable family.
