Summary/Abstract: The paper deals with the problem of self-esteem and the level of hopelessness of adolescence in Lithuania. The self-esteem scale, psychological well-being at school scale (Beresnevičienė, 1995), the sociometric method and a questionnaire on hopelessness was used in the research (1013 teenagers: 534 girls and 479 boys, age 12–14 from Lithuanian cities, towns and villages). As data of the research revealed there exists a negative statistically significant correlation between self-esteem and the level of hopelessness of adolescence: r = -0,317, p < 0,001. Students of high social priority among peers at school revealed a lower level of hopelessness than students of low social priority among peers: t (292,690) = -9,644, p = 0,000. Students of high social priority among peers at school revealed a lower level of hopelessness than students of average social priority among peers: t (199,472) = -4,835, p = 0,000. No statistical difference between the level of hopelessness among boys and girls was found. No statistical difference between the level of hopelessness among adolescence from full and divorced parents‘ families was found. The research revealed that a positive statistically significant correlation between self-esteem and psychological well-being at school of adolescence also exists. The higher self-esteem the more adolescents like to study at school (r = 0,306, p < 0,001), the more they evaluate themselves as successful (r = 0,250, p < 0,001), the more they evaluate their studies at school as usefull (r = 0,247, p < 0,001) and evaluate learning as more interesting (r = 0,232, p < 0,001).
