Summary/Abstract: Predeal lies close to the source of the Prahova river, on the former border once separating southern Romania and Transylvania. An old-age commercial and strategic settlement, archaeologically traceable as far back as the Bronze Age, the place has of late become a fashionable mountain resort which boasts swarms of holiday-makers the year round. Predeal was quite an eventful site during World War I , thus confirming the strategic importance of its position at moments of historical unrest. A brief survey of what happened there in the hot autumn of 1916 will give us a notion of how complex and contradictory the destination of certain localities can be.
