Summary/Abstract: An ability to lead a dialogue with the representatives of different cultures in a proper way is equally important as to seek doctrinal similarities between Christians of the East and West. We may learn how to do it from the great teachers of faith, Sts Cyril and Methodius. They knew how to cross the cultural borders and avoid ending up at contradictions, because they practised their apostolic universality, which has an intrinsic capability of reconciling unity with diversity. Bad memories on both sides, still dividing us today, may be overcome by precisely this kind of Christian message. The teaching of the pope, himself a Slav, on the evangelisation work of the Apostles of the Slavs, stresses their role in laying the foundations of Europe. These foundations are so solid and vital, that they cannot be ignored in our efforts at making Europe into a whole.
