Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this study is to present some of the general characteristics of different tipes of prevention programs (primary, secondary, tertiary) and also some of the major theoretical perspectives (the psychodynamic theory, the cognitive learning theory, the environmental theory, the ecology theory) which relate the causes of child abuse and neglect to the possible interventions and to the effective strategies development in prevention activities. We consider that the ecological approach, which is often encountered in the prevention programs elaboration, fulfills an important integrating role because the efforts are not focused on a single-way direction, but are appliedin an effort to associate the effects of interaction between the various everyday situations. In this respect, the article below attach greater importance to this approach and we are going to present not only the results of some researches which emphasise the identification of the risk factors at individual, familiar and community levels, but also results of some investigations which put emphasis on the identification and the consolidation of the protective factors within the prevention programs.
