Summary/Abstract: According to recent studies, Romania occupies the third place among the member states of the European Union with regard to people's attitudes towards domestic violence, given that 6% of the Romanians believe that violence against women may be acceptable. (Eurobarometer 2010). Starting from these premises, our study analyzes Romanian values concerning women's role in family and in society. For that purpose, we carried out a secondary analysis based on statistical data provided by World Values Surveys. The results were interpreted from the perspective of socio-economic transformations in postcommunist period and the persistence of traditional values in the Romanian society.
