Summary/Abstract: Before becoming a land of black coal, Upper Silesia was the region of zinc and lead. Mining has been the destination of the eastern part of the area since the Middle Ages at the latest, but the hometowns of Upper Silesian mines, Bytom and Tarnowskie Góry, were not associated with coal. Zanim stał się krainą węgla kamiennego, Górny Śląsk był ziemią cynku i ołowiu. Górnictwo okazało się przeznaczeniem wschodniej części regionu co najmniej od średniowiecza, ale kolebki górnośląskiego kopalnictwa – Bytom i Tarnowskie Góry – nie były związane z węglem.
