Summary/Abstract: Nursing is a greatly feminised profession, especially in Poland. Low salaries are one of the reasonsfor the deficiency of nursing staff. Nursing is mainly associated with unprofessional houseworkthat women traditionally performed free of charge. In addition, the necessity to enrol in highereducation and the work environment discourage those who want to pursue studies in thisprofession. Increasing the number of men in nursing may improve this situation. For thispurpose, the profession should be actively promoted to young people, thus breaking genderstereotypes. The reason for reluctance of men to join the nursing profession is discussed inthe article.
