Summary/Abstract: The article describes the role of the press in constructing the cultural strategies of war on the example from the conflict in the Republic of Tajikistan (1992-1997). On the basis of qualitative analysis newspapers published in Russian and Tajik we present one of these strategies - the efforts of the key factions of the conflict (the post-communists, the democratic opposition, the Islamic opposition) to convince Tajik society to a certain, designated vision of a new, independent Tajikistan.
