The interpretation of the Cliff as a type of antinihilistic novel is proposed. The work is viewed from the point of view of genre prizes: thematic (the presence of the hero - nihilist and the bearer of conservative views), the plot structure (the struggle of two ideologically opposite forces), the position of the hero, the so-called. "Victims", stylistics (publicism, pamphlet) and ideological concept (the triumph of conservative forces). In addition to confirming the antinihilistic nature of the Cliff, reviews of contemporary criticism and the reaction to them by the author are used.
