Managing Local development

Summary/Abstract: An aim of the paper is to know instruments of supporting local development used by the local authority. Presented analyses are based on own investigations provided in 47 communes of Silesian Voivodeship in 2008 focused on forms of supporting an increase of entrepreneurship. Activities of territorial self-government units enhanced shaping conditions of local development being under self-government administration. Investigation showed that in researched communes these instruments are as follows: strategic and operational planning of local development and its coordination, creating industrial areas, use of local resources, development financing and finance instruments of support, marketing instruments, including designing the places’ image, and also land development planning. In the process of creating socio-economic development on a local level selfgovernment authorities use varied groups instruments of socio-economic impact. The most popular are: legislative and administrative, institutional and organisational, financial, planning, and infrastructure.
