Summary/Abstract: The goal of this article is the analysis of a relationship between risk propensiy and key competencies. Contemporary education is based on a lifelong learning idea. The main goal of teaching is acquiring key competencies by students. These are combinations of knowledge, skills and attitudes appropriate to the context. They are particularly necessary for personal fulfilment and development, social inclusion, active citizenship and employment. A development of key competencies can be supported by some individual characteristisc. It is assumed in the article that one of them is risk propensity. Taking a risk, especially a social and intelectual risk, is an important ability in the domain of entrepreneurship, creativity, problem solving or decision making.
