Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to discuss absence of ‘running tourism’ in scientific publications; attempt to define the concept, specify its characteristic, classify it in selected forms and categories of tourism and indicate tourists’ motivation for undertaking the activity. The authors discussed the type of supply and demand of running tourism market. The main suppliers of running tourism product, its components, as well as, the main organizers of the events and the characteristic of the events were presented. The statistics of randomly selected marathons from over a long interval of period were included to point out rapid growth of interest in running and running tourism itself in recent years. A recapitulation of the dispute emphasizes importance of this particular type of tourism for organizers of the events, suppliers of goods, sponsors and places where the events take place.
