Summary/Abstract: Changes taking place in the urban areas and urban structure of the Eastern Black Sea region that effected from many parameters is different from general trend in Turkey. The purpose of this study is to examine structure and historical change of urbanization of the Eastern Black Sea region in terms of reasons and results; and also to evaluate the problems arising from this urban transition. To this end, for the analysis of urban structure statistical evaluations has made from essential indicators such as number of cities, urban population change, density of cities, population growth rates and urbanization rates. Mainly databases of TUIK and other public institutions and international organizations like the World Bank has been benefited for obtaining basic variables and quantitative data required in empirical study. As the basis, the research itemizes and makes a general assessment to the problems caused by urbanization and urban change in the existing urban scale in the Eastern Black Sea region; and offers solutions for the issue.
