Summary/Abstract: North Caucasus is a border region of Russia with Azerbaijan and Georgia in the south, with the Black Sea and Azov in the west, with the Caspian Sea in the east. North Caucasus is of high importance for Azerbaijan in terms of Russia-Azerbaijan relations from both historical and current developments point of view. Indeed, the factors reveal that the North Caucasus region will long be an important factor in Russia-Azerbaijan relations. The North Caucasus factor is creating various geopolitical, security and geo-economic effects in bilateral relations. In this article, we will evaluate those effects in terms of risks and opportunities.
