Summary/Abstract: The Abkhazians represent an old state tradition in the Caucasus, however there are developments and regulations made at the beginnings of the XX. century, in the core of the current problem. The Soviet regime established autonomous administration in the region, but Abkhazians were not in majority within the defined borders. This caused constant tension with Georgians. During the wars just after the collapse of The Soviets, Abkhazian forces backed by Russians expelled authority of the Georgian state, and exodus of the Georgian population accompanied it. The state of non-solution continues.
