Summary/Abstract: Absence of a directive in the European Union in the scope of activity of insurance guarantee funds causes differentiation in practice of their creation and organization. The subject matter of the presented article “The Role and Activity of the Dutch Guarantee Fund (College voor Zorgverzekeringen CVZ) in the area of private health insurance” is the analysis of activity of the CVZ. The CVZ is a specialized fund, whose activity covers risk compensation, bankruptcy prevention and compensation in case of an insurer insolvency. The fund is financed by ex post and ex ante mode by insurers, though the compensation guarantor is the state. The range of objectives performed by the CVZ is substantially wider but in the scope attributed to guarantee funds the activities are mainly dedicated to undertakings minimizing insolvency.
