Summary/Abstract: Thе aim of this study was to discuss some standardization problems of contemporary Serbian and English scientific and professional terminology. To achieve this goal, a morphosyntactic and semantic analysis has been carried out. Examples are provided from various fields of transport and traffic engineering to illustrate that nouns, compounds and verbs of motion may be polysemous. Apart from polysemy, synonymy is also considered at both morphological and semantic levels. Close attention has been paid to Anglicisms, as employed in Serbian telecommunications traffic terminology, as well as to imprecise translation equivalents and to terminological gaps. The paper offers some solutions to the problems raised, and concludes that an active collaboration of language experts and engineers is necessary in order to find adequate translation equivalents in Serbian and to standardize them. Certain principles have been introduced too, since standard terms should be set based on them. Тhe terminological units analysed here show that the meaning of terms is context- and collocation-dependent
