Summary/Abstract: Scientific journals represent one of the essential aspects of scientific communication. The aim of this paper is to present library activities in supporting formal scientific communication and creation and dissemination of new scientific informations in scientific publications. There are many criteria assessing the quality of scientific journals and those who are most often cited are: continuity of publication, reputable publisher, international editorial board, indexing, reviewing process, editorial policy, publishing ethics, clear and precise instructions for authors. The paper presents the review of evaluation criteria, and evaluation of scientific and professional journals while indexing in the relevant databases for a particular scientific field. Library acquisition policy is based on evaluation of scientific journals and journal selection for subscription according to their ranking in Journal Citation Report (Thomson Reuters). Creating collection of current high-quality scientific periodicals and access to relevant scientific data bases, academic library contributes to creating supportive environment for teaching staff in their scientific work. Scientific contribution of academic staff could be visible through personal bibliography created using researcher ID from E-CRIS in COBISS system.
