Place names with Turkish origins constitute one of the main toponymic layers in Russia. They are widespread and have complex linguistic structures, thus necessitating a special scholarly interest. They have a rich vocabulary and universal tipologies. This phenomenon has developed under various ethnic and cultural influences in a long period. It is possible to observe influence of contacts with Turkish speaking peoples, as well as geographical and ethno-linguistic factors in making of the Turkish-origined place names in Russia.
