Summary/Abstract: The article explores the process of starting and developing regular diplomatic relations between the Ottoman and Russian empires by the example of the notes of Count P. A. Tolstoy – the first Russian ambassador in Turkey. Showing sources of knowledge about Turkey and Turkish society in Russia, provides a brief list of the main diplomatic sources on Russian-Turkish relations in the Foreign Policy Archive of the Russian Empire.
