Insurance companies versus other financial intermediaries in Poland in the years 2005–2009

Summary/Abstract: This paper presents the essence of financial intermediation and a short characteristic of financial intermediaries. In particular the article investigates: –– the size and the dynamics of financial intermediaries’ assets (banks, open pension funds, insurance companies, investment funds) paying particular attention to the insurance companies, –– the role of domestic banks and domestic investors outside banking system in financing domestic debt.
