Summary/Abstract: An aim of considerations is to recognise the new trends in Polish consumers’ behaviour in retail trade and to indicate the implications for commercial enterprises issuing from consumers’ attitudes and behaviours. These trends, in the author’s belief, are an important factor affecting the manner in which contemporary entities operating in the retailing sector are functioning, which set forth new rules of retail outlets functioning under the conditions of the knowledge-based economy developing in Poland. In the above context, there is outlined an important issue of the impact of consumers’ behaviours on retail trade development. Thus, the recognition of the abovementioned trends entails important practical and social implications. The first mean use of important knowledge on the contemporary consumer, which is needed by retail firms to build their innovative offers and business models. The second translate into diffusion of knowledge on consumers’ market behaviours taking into account the real (hence, actual) needs of the Polish society. It allows, on the one hand, raising awareness of trade entities operating in the sphere of retail trade and, on the other hand, expands the hitherto knowledge on trade and its challenges. Owing to this, the article can contribute to the knowledge-based society’s development and this is currently one of the main direction policies of the European Union. The article is of the research nature.
