Summary/Abstract: A family is the first social group a child meets, and to which it belongs. The development of a child cannot be observed separately from the family in which the child lives, which influences it and which it influences. The family is a community with profound and lasting joint interests, firm and lasting bonds among its members. A systematic understanding of the family is of exceptional importance for understanding the dimensions of its functionality, so this aspect was considered in this Paper with special attention. In this framework we examined family types, relations in the family as well as the terms such as: full family, and the parameters of a functional determination of the family. In the practical part, when carrying out the research, one tried to analyze the problem of the role and the functionality of the family when speaking of school achievements of students, which in this research was examined through the success in a mathematical test and the final grades in this subject at the and of the school year. The research has confirmed that the best success was achieved by those students whose families may be said to be balanced, followed by those students whose families are rigidly cohesive, while the end is reserved for the students whose families are classified as average.
