Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is the description of research and development centers as aninstrument of an innovation policy in Poland. The article explains what a research anddevelopment center is. The paper indicates requirements to obtain the status of a researchand development center and it describes preferences and responsibilities for the researchand development center. Also the article presents data on the number of entrepreneurswho have research and development centers status in Poland and its regions in the years2008–2013.
