Sustainable Development – Challenges within the Environmental Dimension

Summary/Abstract: The concept of sustainable development has been evolving for more than fifty years. Still, despite of passage of time, we can find a number of challenges, and we have to cope with them to ensure intergenerational equity (not to decrease opportunities of the future generations to meet their needs), life quality of the present and future generations. This article describes the attempt of approximating basic challenges within the environmental dimension of sustainable development, which are nowadays faced by the society, economy in the context of environmental determinants of that concept. This is, at the same time, the study’s aim. The structure of this work has allowed realisation of the adopted aim therein. In this work, there was used the literature of the subject, governmental documents and statistical data.
