Several Remarks on the Treatise „The Philosophy of Nature“ and the Translation of its Chapter

Summary/Abstract: This publication accompanies the translation of the introductory chapters of G. W. F. Hegel’s Philosophy of Nature. It discusses concisely the context of the philosophy of nature and its conceptions. It indicates its indissociativity from the whole of its author’s thought: not only from his science of logic and philosophy of nature, but also from the philosophy of religion as well as even from the anterior phenomenology of spirit. It is asserted that the here-discussed part of The Encyclopedia of Philosophical Sciences is not a marginal segment of Hegel’s philosophy but an indispensable moment for the understanding Hegel’s entire system. The chosen translations of the Hegelian terminology, as well as a broader principle for translating this text, are also discussed.
