Summary/Abstract: By turning to good account the oral narrating skills revealed while participating in a research project by teenaged bilinguals speaking Spanish and Romanian, the present contribution views contrastively the stylistic force and function of diminutives as acquired through their context-sensitive employment, and the underlying psycholinguistic motive power, as exhibited by: Romanian students learning SFL nationwide; the former’s fellow-countrymen resuming speaking Romanian after spending/studying several years in Spain; naturalized Romanian highschool students for whom Spanish has been promoted to the status of L1. Likewise, our approach aims to assess the language competence of the three groups of students sampled, through additional identification of the all-purpose words utilized in producing their narratives.
