Summary/Abstract: The article examines A. T. Mahan’s influence on American geopolitics and geostrategics. A. T. Mahan was the United States Navy officer, geostrategist, historian and educator. He was appointed president of the United States Naval War College from 1886 to 1889 and again from 1892 to 1893. His most influential books are follows: The Influence of Sea Power upon History 1660-1783, and The Influence of Sea Power upon the French Revolution and Empire 1793-1812, which formed american geopolitical thinking. The premise of his works was that in the contests between France and England in the 18th century, domination of the sea via naval power was the deciding factor in the outcome, and therefore, that control of seaborne commerce was critical to domination in war. This premise supported strong increasing of American naval power and expansionism. Mahan's influence sowed the seeds for events such as the naval portion of the Spanish-American War and Russo-Japanese War and the battle of Atlantic.
