Summary/Abstract: The development of information and communications technology requires major changes at the local institutional level, national one, and especially at the global level. Libraries have the duty to adapt to new user requirements, and to periodically review and update their mission and objectives. The survival of libraries and the achievement of ever changing objectives directly depend on the employees’motivation and self-motivation. Selecting models (at the institutional and individual level) and keeping informed with what is developed or recommended by prestigious institutions/organizations in the field are necessary but not sufficient conditions for the success of libraries and librarians in Romania.
