Summary/Abstract: The geographic location of the states has a bearing on both the economic relations and especially the political relations among them. In the case of Romania, the positioning on a compulsory passageway from the east to the southeast and the center of Europe generated a highly tumultuous, full of events, history and tense international relations. Regarding the Romanian-Russian relations, they have always had specific features of the relationship between a great power and a small state, with all its repercussions. At present, Romania is in a geopolitical region where two projects are running simultaneously: the Intermarium and the Eurasiatic. Both of them are due to the expansionist policy of the Russian Federation. Consequently, Romania needs to develop a policy of defending and promoting its national interest.
