Characteristics of the Verb {alarmować} (‘to alarm’)

Summary/Abstract: The paper presents semantic and syntactic description of the verb {alarmować} (‘to alarm’). The utterances from the National Corpus of Polish were the basis for my research. I confront this verb with verbs presented as its synonyms: {informować} (‘to inform’), {ostrzegać} (‘to warn’), {zawiadamiać} (‘to notify’). I also offer my own preliminary definition of alarmować. The study, focusing on semantic and syntactic features of the verb, aims at providing evidence that it is pointless to distinguish two (or three) meanings of {alarmować}, which is what Polish dictionaries tend to do.
