Modern agriculture development in the context of an objective of sustainable growth

Summary/Abstract: In the context of an objective of sustainable growth, special consideration should be given to the specifics of agricultural production and its limitations. In fact agriculture is relatively less productive and less profitable than other sectors of economy. Therefore, as a weaker sector of the economy, agriculture does not develop at the same pace as other sectors and therefore deserves special attention and careful consideration of its other functions and not just production. The greatest challenge facing modern agriculture is meeting the demands of competitiveness. Free market forces compliant with the requirements of agricultural overproduction inevitably result in growing competitiveness, which, in turn, compels an increase of production intensification, concentration and specialisation, and results in environmental and social conflict. A fundamental developmental dilemma arises how to balance sustainable growth against competitiveness. W związku z celami zrównoważonego rozwoju współczesnych gospodarek należy zwrócić szczególną uwagę na specyfikę produkcji rolniczej i wynikające z niej ograniczenia, które powodują, że rolnictwo jest relatywnie mniej wydajnym i mniej dochodowym działem gospodarki. Jest więc ze swej natury działem słabszym i nie rozwija się w takim samym tempie jak inne działy gospodarki. Konieczne jest zatem dostrzeżenie i docenienie pozaprodukcyjnych funkcji rolnictwa. Największym wyzwaniem dla współczesnego rolnictwa staje się podołanie konkurencyjności. Siły rynku w warunkach nadprodukcji prowadzą nieuchronnie do rosnącej konkurencji, która wymusza wzrost poziomu intensywności produkcji, jej koncentracji i specjalizacji, co z kolei zderza się z barierą środowiskową i społeczną. Pojawia się podstawowy dylemat rozwojowy: jak godzić zrównoważony rozwój z rosnącą konkurencyjnością na rynkach rolno-żywnościowych.
