Summary/Abstract: In the first part of the paper there is a short overview on Marian Jurczyk’s way to power. It was very interesting that Jurczyk, without a support of any political party, in 1997 get a senator mandate and in one year after he was elected as a president of Szczecin. Then, in 2002 he won the direct election for the president and governed until 2006. The period of Jurczyk’s governing wasn’t successful, so before the local elections in 2006 the political parties looked for another candidate. The highest level of support gained Piotr Krzystek, a young man favoured by Platforma Obywatelska. In next years in Szczecin’s politics the real change appeared. Firstly, the generation of people between 30 and 40 came in to the local power institutions. Secondly, one political party – Platforma Obywatelska – became a very strong leader on Szczecin’s political scene.
