The Steward Vasile Pogor and Bessarabia

Summary/Abstract: Wanting to recover the money owed by the chamberlain Iancu Balş to his dead brother Tudorache Pogor, Vasile Pogor arrived in Bessarabia in 1819 and filed a trial. Because the trial lasted a longer period of time, Vasile Pogor found himself for a while in Bessarabia, where he practiced law. In 1822, while he was still in Bessarabia, he married Zoița Cerchez who inherited the Boldurești estate; after some time he returned to Iași. He maintained his connections with Bessarabia not only because of the property inherited by his wife, but also because his daughter Anastasia married the Bessarabian nobleman Dimitrie Bantăş.
