Summary/Abstract: The article presents the analysis of Socratic dialogue in teaching English for specific purposes. The scientific literature states that the goal of Socratic dialogue is to stimulate critical thinking. This teaching technique is especially popular at studies in law, political sciences, and philosophy because in the centre of these fields lies the discussion that develops the skills and competences of how to express oneself, how to present an opinion and how to reach an agreement. The case analysis, which is described in the article, leads to a conclusion that Socratic dialogue can be successfully used in developing the English language proficiency. This teaching technique helps to expand thematic vocabulary in a foreign language and also fosters the use of different grammatical structures.
