Summary/Abstract: The study discusses the evolution in the convergence of regulations determining legal framework and supervision methods over the European Union insurance market. The performed analysis shows that regarding the situation in 2012 an extensive convergence was observed. However, such a convergence requires further changes in common regulations, practices and supervision methods as well as the approach reorientation of national supervision authorities towards the common European Union market. Future solutions regarding the convergence may consist in correcting the existing regulations (greater powers for supervision authorities, the rule of legal jurisdiction by the power of impact) or may be related with more radical ideas (establishing EU structures for bi-functional supervision, appointing an institution for overall EU insurance sector supervision, or appointing an integrated EU financial supervision system).
