Risk factors associated with substance abuse in adolescense.

Summary/Abstract: The article presents the key groups of risk factors that influence the development of substance abuse and dependence in adolescents – biological factors; family and parents; peers; school; contextual and individual factors. A review of the results of the studies in these areas has been done and key components related to substance abuse and addictions have been derived. The importance of the implementation of these components into prevention, treatment and rehabilitation programmes targeting adolescents has been addressed.
