Summary/Abstract: The article presents results of a national representative survey on optimism, understood as a generalized attitude. The data shows differences in optimistic attitudes related to characteristics such as age, marital status, availability of children and number of sources of income in the household. The study confirms the hypothesis of a link between the perception of own economic status and the demonstrated levels of optimism. Contribution to the topic is the study of the relationship between optimism and political orientation, euroidentity, patriotism. The analysis focuses on the expectation for an optimistic outcome in relation to the individual’s social experience and the wider socio-historical context.
