Summary/Abstract: In the tenth book of Institutio oratoria Quintilian encourages his readers to imitate Cicero, whose name in those days was a forename of eloquence. This accolade was paraphrased in a laudation devoted to Arpinate from the collection of speeches prepared under the guidance of a professor of the University of Lovanium, Nicholas Vernulaeus (Nicolas de Vernulz, 1583-1649). The aim of this paper is to present this speech as an example of the Ciceronianism in the 17th century Flanders.
