Summary/Abstract: The present article aims to find out why naval architecture texts require naval architecture (technical) translators. We have taken into consideration the role of the naval architecture (technical) translator in the shipbuilding industry, when and where he/she is needed and by whom. Other issues to be discussed are the multifaceted background, a high level of knowledge of the subject and the relevant terminology required from the naval architecture (technical) translator, since 5-10% of the technical documents are highly specialized terms.
