Summary/Abstract: This year is the 100th anniversary of the first Lithuanian medical journal Medicina ir gamta (Medicine and nature). This publication started raising issues of medical terminology which are still relevant – lack and excess of terms, variation of terms naming the same concept, unification and approval of terms, the necessity to involve both specialists and linguists in the development of terminology, concern about the “Lithuanianness” of medical terminology, etc. Doctors were encouraged to collect words from the folk language or to create terms following the rules of Lithuanian grammar.
