Summary/Abstract: The Constitution of the Republic of Serbia contains numerous provisions on local self-government, which regulate this materia in detail, which includes some new solutions, unknown in the previous Constitution. The subject of this work is the analysis of these provisions, with the aim to conclude whether the legal approach to the regulation of the issues is appropriate, as well as to understand the content of the provisions. The basic method of analysis is the legal method. The analysis shows that the local self-government has been regulated unusually in detail. This approach has to be criticized, since the reform of the system of local self-government in this case is almost if not completely impossible. The Constitution should contain only the principles of the local self-government, while more detailed regulation could be acceptable only if it is necessary as a guarantee for protection of the local self-government from the state power. The work contains some proposals for the regulation of the materia of local self-government which could be taken into consideration in the case of the revision of the Constitution.
