Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to discuss the role of project work in teaching foreign languages in Polish junior secondary schools. Project work is presented as a technique successfully activating and motivating learners, allowing educators to implement the principles of the constructivist approach. The author presents reports on two studies that explored how this way of teaching is applied in Polish junior secondary education. The results of the studies confirm the effectiveness of project work in teaching English as a foreign language and underline the need for creating better school conditions to use this valuable technique. The author of the paper hopes that the text will encourage teachers to treat this technique as a regular class activity, not only as an interesting didactic experiment
