Summary/Abstract: Paronomasia is a very interesting stylistic device used in ancient oratory, folklore, and probably cultic rituals. Paronomasia includes language units similar in sound but different in meaning. This stylistic figure is part of the phonetic level. Paronomasia usually arouses comic or ironic effect in the text, but it is possible to use to a poetical effect as well. There are not many examples of paronomasia in the mass media, because this phenomenon requires stylistic and emotional expression and it is part of the writer’s language distinction. Some examples of paronomasia are found in headlines or advertisements, as well as in the Internet chat rooms. The analysis of paronomasia can arouse interest among the linguists of different research areas, not only stylistics, but up to now, the multiplicity of paronomasia has not been investigated.
