Summary/Abstract: Reflexive verbs, their meaning and functions belong to one of the most complicated parts of Latvian morphology and syntax. Reflexive verbs can express both middle and passive voice in modern Latvian. Part of the reflexive verbs has undergone the process of lexicalization and function as particular lexemes. Such diversity of reflexive verbs stylistically strongly manifests itself in the colloquial Latvian. Due to the tendency of democratization, colloquial usage of reflexive verbs is prevalent in mass media texts. Interestingly, colloquial reflexive verbs have more archaic features of the voice system than standard Latvian.
