Summary/Abstract: Willingness to complete higher education is a manifestation of an enterprising attitude. Reasons behind seeking higher education are inseparably connected with the value of education in today’s realities. The aim of this study was to determine the reasons behind the choice of study, satisfaction with studies and career plans of students of Tourism and Recreation at the Kazimierz Wielki University in Bydgoszcz. 136 respondents (69% of women and 31% men) were chosen by nonprobability sampling. The method of diagnostic survey was used, which incorporated a survey (author’s questionnaire), interview and observation techniques. For the statistical inference, the incidence of features and the chi-square test for independence were used. It was found that the most common reasons to choose Tourism and Recreation at the UKW were: passion for travel and desire to explore the world, the prospect of interesting work, employment opportunities in tourism, and interest in physical recreation. Most of the students were satisfied with the chosen field of study, especially those who were motivated by sport, qualified tourism, carrier prospects and autotelic reasons. Twice as many women than men planned their professional future in tourism. Men were more likely to prefer professions related to physical culture.
